Recently, I was a runner-up in the 2018-2019 SCBWI-MI Novel Mentorship competition for my upper middle grade novel, Chavela’s Quest.

I view my daily writing practice and engagement with the written word as an artist—what we do is art. My writing ventures include keeping a journal, writing poetry, picture books, and novels for middle grade and YA. And always, I read, read, read.

I’ve been a member of the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators (SCBWI) since 2013. My survival as a writer is due in large part to my involvement in two awesome SCBWI critique groups—as writing friends we offer each other endless support and encouragement. Currently, I’m the Coordinator of KAST (Kalamazoo Area Shop Talks) for SCBWI-MI.
